COLLEGE PARK, Ga. – February 21, 2023 – The City of College Park is pleased to announce the appointment of Stanley Hawthorne as city manager. The announcement comes following a February 20, 2023, College Park City Council vote. In his new role, Hawthorne will work in collaboration with elected officials and the community to ensure smooth and efficient operations. 

“We look forward to Mr. Hawthorne joining the City of College Park,” College Park Mayor Bianca Motley Broom said. “He is a proven leader and innovator in local government and his extensive experience will serve our city well. As we work to build the community we deserve, the efficient management of day-to-day operations is critical. Our residents, business owners and visitors deserve the highest level of service we can deliver. We are confident Mr. Hawthorne will help us achieve a standard of excellence in all of our departments.” 

Hawthorne brings years of experience in various city appointments and community leadership positions. Previously, he served as the town manager for Bloomfield, Connecticut, as well as city manager for Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, and assistant city manager for Fort Lauderdale, Tamarac and Lakeland, Florida. In addition, he has served as president for the Camp Fire USA Sunshine Council and the Broward City/County Management Association. He is a current member of the International and Florida City/County Management Association, the National Forum for Black Public Administrators and the Government Finance Officers Association. 

“I am honored and enthused to join the stakeholders of the great City of College Park,” Hawthorne said. “Together, we are going to build great community in the best interest and care of College Park’s neighbors.” 

Hawthorne earned a Bachelor of Science from Troy University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Virginia.

Hawthorne’s appointment is effective on April 4, 2023.
