Historic Southern Town Invites Residents and Visitors Alike to Experience Immersive Celebration of the Holiday Spirit; Annual Festival to Commence November 26 with Live Performance from Macon Pops

MACON, Ga. – (November 17, 2021) Visit Macon, the destination marketing organization (DMO) for promoting the charming southern town of Macon, Georgia, today announced the return of its Main Street Christmas Light Extravaganza. The annual event, made possible through support from the Community Foundation of Central Georgia, is a festive celebration perfect for families and friends looking to enjoy an authentic, walkable downtown district while getting into the holiday spirit.

On Friday, November 26, Downtown Macon will transform into a merry wonderland with more than 500,000 Christmas lights strung across four blocks of the city’s Main Street. Beginning at 6 p.m., Macon Pops, a world-class orchestra that travels across the country, will perform an opening concert. Each song performed by the high-energy group will feature a local artist, continuing Macon’s tradition of rich musical heritage, with songs timed to a choreographed light display on Poplar and Third Streets. Listeners will be immersed in a full sensory experience that exudes the magic of Christmas.

“We are thrilled to bring back this beloved annual tradition and look forward to welcoming visitors and locals to downtown Macon for this festive event once again,” said Valerie Bradley, vice president of marketing for Visit Macon. “The Main Street Christmas Light Extravaganza gives the community an opportunity to connect with loved ones and experience the joy of the holidays.”

Following the opening concert, free shows will be open to the public nightly through January 2, with performances beginning at the top of each hour from 6 to 10 p.m. After the light show, visitors can stroll through historic Downtown Macon to experience the city’s thriving culinary and retail district. Other seasonal activities will include carriage rides, selfies with Santa and live reindeer, and more.

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year in Macon, and we can’t wait to help spread the holiday spirit,” said Bradley. “We look forward to coming together to bid farewell to 2021 and look ahead to several exciting events in Macon in the New Year.”
