Premier Virginia Resort Rolling Out Improvements and Expansions to Ski Area, Along with Promotions and Events in Honor of Milestone 

MASSANUTTEN, Va. – August 19, 2021 – Virginia’s premier all-season mountain resort destination, Massanutten Resort, today announced its upcoming 50th anniversary, celebrating half a century of memories.

This winter season will be the most exciting yet, with many opportunities for guests and the community to come together and celebrate a successful past and also a shared vision for the future. In addition to participating in fun events throughout the season, guests will also have the opportunity to submit their own reminiscent photos and videos from Massanutten to be included in the celebration at 50th Celebration Photo/Video Submissions.

“As a staple in the community and the industry for the last 50 years, we want to honor a successful half-century and the guests and team members who have helped make this Resort so special,” said Matthias Smith, general manager at Massanutten Resort. “And as exciting as this celebration will be, we have some exciting news to share about our future with one of the largest expansions the ski area has seen since the late 1980’s.”

Massanutten Resort will hold several anniversary events and promotions to honor the past and ring in the future, including:

New for the 2021/2022 Winter Season

This ski season, Massanutten is saying “Ready. Set. We’re Not Done Yet”. While the resort will stay true to the original vision from the last 50 years, it will also take a glimpse into the future with a new trail and lift upgrades with a focus on providing additional terrain for all levels of skiers and riders and snowmaking improvements, allowing the resort to open faster and with more reliable snow conditions. These improvements will position Massanutten to provide its guests with remarkable experiences while reducing its carbon footprint on the environment. 

Historical Photo/Video Submissions from Visitors

With countless families that have made unforgettable memories skiing together at Massanutten, the resort is asking that guests submit their photos and videos from the 1970s to the 1990s to be used in the anniversary celebration. Photos and videos will be implemented in marketing materials, videos and social media and will be showcased throughout the resort.

  • Visitors who would like their photos and videos to be featured can submit them by September 30 here.

Hall of Fame Dinner

The resort is thrilled to host the inaugural Hall of Fame Program recognizing deserving candidates for either the Massanutten Industry Achievement Award or the Massanutten Community Impact Award. Nominee submissions will be accepted until October 10, 2021 online at 2021 Massanutten Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame Dinner will take place on November 20, 2021 at the resort and all proceeds will benefit the Massanutten Ski Team. The dinner is open to everyone, and additional details will be released soon and can be found at Reservations must be made in advance.
